Buying a used phone in Windsor: what to check
Most people buying second-hand worry about the same four things. Here is how we handle each of them, and what to ask any seller — including us.
Battery health
A phone can look perfect and still need charging twice a day. On iPhone the figure lives in Settings › Battery › Battery Health & Charging; anything above 80% is considered healthy by Apple. We show the measured percentage on the listing where we have it, and replace any battery below 80% before the handset goes on sale.
Condition grade, honestly described
Grades vary wildly between sellers, so ours are deliberately plain. Like New means you would not pick it out from a new handset. Excellent means light marks you would struggle to see at arm's length. Good means visible everyday scratches. No cracked screens or dented frames are ever sold as any of these. Every grade is judged on the actual handset, and you are welcome to inspect it in the shop before paying.
Is it really unlocked, and is it clean?
Every phone we sell is unlocked to all UK networks, factory reset, and checked against the national database so it is not reported lost or stolen. Ask any seller for the IMEI and check it yourself — a legitimate seller will hand it over without hesitating.
How long will it keep getting updates?
Software support matters more than raw age. An older iPhone still receiving iOS updates is a safer buy than a newer Android that stopped receiving security patches. Where we know the support window, it is printed on the listing with a link to the manufacturer's own page so you can verify it rather than take our word for it.
Buying from a shop rather than a marketplace
We are a physical shop on Peascod Street, two minutes from Windsor Castle. That means you can hold the handset before paying, you get a ${""}3-year Windsor Express warranty, and if something goes wrong you have somebody to walk back to. Online orders also carry 14-day change-of-mind returns.
Prefer to keep your current phone? A screen or battery repair is usually far cheaper than replacing it — see iPhone repair in Windsor, Samsung repair or games console repair. If you are upgrading, we also buy phones for cash or trade-in.
Software-support information was checked against manufacturer information on 24 July 2026. The version already installed can vary by handset, region and update status, so we check it before sale. Please inspect a phone on collection and ask us anything you need before purchase. See our warranty, returns policy and customer terms.
